Meet Dr. Thuraia Owais (Dr. O)
Since 2014, Dr. Thuraia Owais (Dr. O) has delivered customized chiropractic care to Mandarin families wishing to live a better life, free of pain and suffering. At our practice, we welcome families of all ages, from babies and children to adults and moms-to-be. We’re here to serve!
Dr. O holds a special place in her heart for working women and moms between 25 and 65. “I really connect with what they often have to endure. They understand the value of health and don’t have time to be sick. It’s a bit of ‘I know you’re busy, I’m busy, too – let’s do this.’”
An Inspiring Back Story
Years ago, Dr. O worked as a pharmacy technician for four years. She had already been accepted into pharmacy school. However, she was tortured by chronic ear infections for three out of those four years. She suffered from 30 ear infections in 36 months, each flare-up followed by a round of antibiotics.
When Dr. O began to develop double ear infections, a friend suggested that she see a chiropractor. Chiropractic was a foreign concept to Dr. O, and she couldn’t grasp how someone “cracking” your neck could possibly help. She ended up seeing a surgeon who told her she would need tubes placed in her ears. Opposed to this option, Dr. O decided to give chiropractic a try.
She had one adjustment and has never had an ear infection since.
Dr. O learned that when the first bone in the neck, the “atlas,” is out of alignment, it places pressure on the tubes inside the ear. The tubes cannot drain properly, and a residue of bacteria builds up. This pool of bacteria then leads to infection. Once her atlas was placed back in the proper position, the pressure on the tubes disappeared, and all was as it should be.
A Palmer Graduate
Dr. O’s ear infection experience led her to a career in chiropractic. She knew that chiropractic would change the lives of others just as it had changed hers. She earned her Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Florida in 2011.
Since being in practice, she’s taken numerous post-graduate courses and helped people all over the world. Here are just a few of her achievements:
- Certification in Upper Cervical Orthospinology
- Certification in Webster Technique to help pregnant moms have safe, successful deliveries
- Volunteer work in Fiji, Colombia, and Guatemala adjusting thousands of the less fortunate
On a Personal Note
Dr. O is a passionate woman. She loves to read and is enthused about researching all things related to health. As she admits, “I’m a habitual learner.” Hiking is a fun pastime, as well as exercise and positive thinking. She has a beloved son, Shadi; he’s always been under chiropractic care and has never had to resort to any kind of medication.
