Dr. RJ Gelinas
Meet Dr. RJ Gelinas
“I love that every single day, I help people reach their greatness.”
Dr. RJ Gelinas was playing super league rugby in Canada when a recruiter from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa, offered him a scholarship to attend chiropractic school. Although his older brother was a chiropractor, Dr. RJ’s knowledge of chiropractic was limited to occasional adjustments for pain relief. With a passion for continuing his rugby career, he left Canada and moved to Davenport to pursue his Doctor of Chiropractic degree.
A Turning Point: Health Crisis
While attending Palmer, Dr. RJ began experiencing digestive issues. Despite feeling and looking healthy, symptoms started to emerge. He returned to Canada, where he ended up hospitalized. Soon after, he was diagnosed with Type II Diabetes and Cirrhosis of the Liver.
The medical solution presented to Dr. RJ involved taking multiple medications for life, which came with the consequence of being unable to have children. This reality was devastating to him, as he felt that a life without the possibility of having his own family would be unbearable. He fell into a deep depression, believing he might never find a way out.
Taking Back Control
During this challenging time, a friend asked Dr. RJ a life-changing question: “What would you be willing to do to get your life and health back?” Without hesitation, Dr. RJ replied, “Anything!” Following his friend’s advice, he sought out a Corrective Care Chiropractor.
Under the care of this chiropractor, Dr. RJ learned about the root cause of dis-ease: the body’s inability to adapt due to subluxation, and how the body’s innate healing power can serve as the cure. He discovered that X-rays could reveal spinal issues, particularly in the atlas, which could be corrected through specific and scientific chiropractic care. This knowledge was new to him, as he had previously viewed chiropractic as pain-based care. In fact, he and his brother had even considered naming their future practice “House of Pain.”
A New Path: Helping Others
At this chiropractor’s office, X-rays identified the underlying cause of Dr. RJ’s health problems, and corrective measures were taken to address his subluxations. Together with Dr. Michelle, who had supported him through his struggles, Dr. RJ spent the last months of chiropractic college traveling globally to become certified chiropractic wellness practitioners focused on subluxation-based corrective care.
By the time Dr. RJ graduated in October 2006, he had lost 75 pounds and was free from diabetes and cirrhosis. His blood pressure and cholesterol levels had returned to normal, and he regained his health through specific and scientific corrective chiropractic care. It was then that Dr. RJ realized his mission: to bring pure chiropractic care to his community and share its benefits with as many people as possible.
